ABOUT THE REGION Nestled alongside the Dordogne River. Sheltered beneath steep cliffs, La Roque-Gageac, is deservedly designated one of "les Plus Beax Village de France". In medieval times, it was an important fortified village and later saw the addition of renaissance manors, including the Manoir de Tarde. It has retained its authentic character over the centuries, featuring attractive narrow stone streets, and interesting homes, churches, and public buildings. There is a weekly market, fabulous restaurants, and a pizzeria. For recreation, there are boules courts, river beaches, park and canoes for rent. Completely sheltered by the cliffs, there is an area where the semi-tropical plant life survives year-round. A walking path that runs behind the buildings at the foot of the cliff provides great views. There are also pre-historic Troglodyte dwellings above. TESTIMONIAL FROM ACTUAL GUEST "South of France Heaven! What a beautiful place to stay while exploring the southwest of France. The house was beautifully appointed with great amenities and plenty of space for our party of 8 people. The house is well equipped and beautifully appointed. It has all the charm of a bygone era with all the modern touches.La Roque is a picture perfect town and the shops and restaurants provided everything we needed. Helene, on the next level up from the house supplied us with wine and gourmet treats and Chef Dimitri came and prepared 2 exceptional meals for us. We had a wonderful time exploring castles, caves, spent a day in Bordeaux and drove through the gorgeous country visiting towns and villages. I can't wait for my next visit!" TESTIMONIAL #2: "Five of us purchased the one week stay at Le Bourg at the local Boys & Girls Club of Santa Maria auction for $4,500. We had the most wonderful week there. The house was lovely, and located close to so many interesting villages, castles and sites. I'd buy it again tomorrow!" Jan Zilli May, 2016 TESTIMONIAL#3" “My first acquaintance with Kitty was through her offering up her home in La Roque-Gageac, France, as an auction item at St. Joseph High School’s BASH annual auction, of which I was the co-chair for 10 years. This item proved to be a wonderful addition to our Live auction offerings for a number of years. The rental of the home was offered at a discount to our non-profit and we then ’sold’ it during the Live auction to willing bidders. This was always a very popular item and my dealings with Kitty were always extremely pleasant, efficient and well organized. We eventually bid on this wonderful vacation for our family. Kitty was so very patient with us as I tried to gather our family of seven together, all at the same time, to make the journey, accommodating us beyond measure. Once we made the journey we were rewarded with a true gem of a destination. The home is very historic, homey and charming. The 7 of us were very comfortable within the accommodations. The town of La Roque-Gageac is magnificent; pictures really do not do it justice. The village is very small and you will become well acquainted with it and its charming residents. The Dordogne river runs directly below you, and you can take all of this in from the patio, covered in equally historic grape vines. Meandering walks among the winding pathways hanging to the cliff-side village were a daily treat, often walking just outside our door to frequent the wine shop. Needless to say we had a fantastic vacation. I have since shared this destination with other non-profits I work with, most recently the Santa Maria Breakfast Rotary and the Marian Hospital Foundation. Both have found this to be a very profitable addition to their Live auction. Bidders are always happy when they come home, which is always a concern for anyone wanting to keep happy guests returning to their event.” Sandy Buchannan May, 2017
